Each song played throughout the film featured an opening title crawl, setting the stage. Using the dystopian narrative of the band’s newest album, I created a distinct typographic style and motion language that was used for all 18 song titles.

Early on in the project, the team needed some visual concepts and ideas of what the transparent camera overlays could look like. They needed to understand what would work on top of the footage and how far they wanted to push the visual style. Working to the tight timeframe, I created a series of overlay templates that I could then adapt and stylise for each song.

Ultimately after a process of creative exploration, we landed upon a simpler minimal style for the overlays that would still highlight the narrative and reward eagle eyed fans, but would also allow the concert footage to take centre stage. These 4k overlays were delivered to the editing team and were featured heavily in almost every shot of the concert across the film’s 2 hour runtime.

The film was received extremely positively as audiences around the world filled cinemas to celebrate its release. It scored a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and was critically acclaimed in almost every review. It remains a truly surreal experience.
